Members of the Raleigh (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated presented 300 boxes of food delivered by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina to deserving families on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the Southeast Raleigh YMCA. The distribution to each family also included a five pound bag of potatoes, a package of chicken or ground beef, a fresh watermelon, a package of cheese, a bag of tossed salad, and boxes of Capri Sun drinks.
Each family also received a packet containing three facial masks, three bottles of hand sanitizer, five pairs of gloves and printed information in English and Spanish on staying safe during this difficult time. Despite the rain (which was refreshing and cool), we continued to load food and supplies in the trunks of the waiting cars.
We want to thank our sponsors, PNC Bank; NC Department of Health & Human Services; Wake Med Health & Hospitals; The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina; and the Southeast Raleigh YMCA. We also want to thank the staff members of the YMCA, Dexter Hebert and Tim Carr who coordinated the long line of traffic from Rock Quarry Road. We also appreciate the support of the husbands of our chapter members, Dan Moore, Wayne Perry and Dmitri Stockton. They did the “heavy lifting” by unloading and organizing the many pallets from the Food Bank, directed the traffic in and out of the parking lot, and kept us safe from the moving cars.
