The Raleigh (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated kicked off the start of a global program to “Combat Period Poverty” by distributing feminine hygiene products at Shaw University on March 11, 2021. Several members safely came together to assemble these feminine hygiene personal care products for Shaw University students. This effort resulted in preparing 200 individual bags containing personal care products, totaling 4200 units. The members who contributed to this most important effort were Sonja Hines, Flora Brown, Beverly Armwood, Patricia Hill, Dee Darkes, Geneva Johnson, Marcy Wylie, LaTonya Everett and Denise Motley. They procured the products, met to assemble them, and accomplished this awesome service within 48 hours! These products were delivered by Marilyn Richards, Flora Brown, LaTonya Everett, and Patricia Hill to Shaw University Faculty leaders, Rishard Wedderburn, Director of Academic Success and Jalesa Sutton, Associate Director of Student Retention. The Raleigh (NC) Chapter is excited to continue to grow this initial project to a sustainable feminine health program for years to come.
