November 3, 2022 - Citizen Diplomacy Series

The International Trends and Services Facet of the Raleigh (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is one of the sponsors of the Citizen Diplomacy Series hosted by International Focus, Inc. International Focus supports the Triangle’s multicultural communities and international exchange through cross-cultural diplomacy and communication. Year-round, they host visiting international delegations to the area and connect them with Triangle businesses, institutions, and people for exchange and dialog.

Several members of the Raleigh Chapter attended the Citizens Diplomacy Series on November 1, 2022, around the theme of Hidden No More: Empowering Women Leaders in STEM. Hidden No More brought to the U.S 42 women in STEM from around the world to advocate for gender equality and build a global network supporting women and girls in STEM. Inspired by the film ‘Hidden Figures,’ the Hidden No More exchange program is part of the International Visitor Leadership Program through the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Inspired by screenings of the award-winning film ‘Hidden Figures’ at more than 120 U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide in 2017, this annual exchange program highlights and develops the important contributions of women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

Members of The Raleigh (NC) Chapter engaged with the visiting diplomats and also attended the speaker series as part of increasing community awareness in foreign affairs. Discussions topics included pathways for women entry in STEM careers, global and cultural issues impacting women in STEM and ensuring opportunities for future young women interested in STEM. Seven women in STEM from Burkina Faso, Columbia, Fiji, Hungary, Mongolia, Panama, and South Africa were participants in the Citizens Diplomacy Series hosted by International Focus in Raleigh.
